Riverview Elementary School
RIVERVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Fort Mills Schools – York 4 | Fort Mill, South Carolina
Located in Fort Mill, SC, the new Riverview Elementary School was the third prototype
elementary school built by the district in a three year period based on the original Tega Cay
Elementary School. Similar to Tega Cay Elementary School and Doby’s Bridge Elementary School, this prototype design, also allowed for a base bid population of 900 students with growth up to 1,000 students.
The building form opens to the main thoroughfare, providing high visibility to the campus entry. The structure builds from one-story at the periphery to two-story volumes at the center of the campus. Grade level play areas are distributed along the academic wings with a large play field at the front of the campus. The school design was site adapted to address existing site grades and to accommodate the school building, parent pick/drop off as well as bus loops.
Inside, the main front entry of the school opens to a two-story atrium space. An open stair
visually connects the first floor to the second floor. The main entry vestibule and atrium
connects administration, media center, and a separate gathering space for the school
cafeteria and multi-purpose room. These large, interconnected gathering spaces host any
number of events, promoting interaction of students, teachers, and visitors. Large glazing at first and second floor academic areas are highlighted with bracketed overhangs, providing ample daylighting to the interior.
